Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Critically analyse international law relating to the concept of the ship and the regulatory framework for shipping, including the work of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO);
2.
Critically analyse the main regulatory instruments for safety of navigation and marine environmental protection related to shipping, and evaluate new regulatory developments;
3.
Identify, locate and evaluate the place of new shipping technology and its application in wider political and legal contexts
4.
Demonstrate research and writing skills by using relevant information, clearly articulating ideas, and synthesising complex theories and concepts to address key issues in the international regulation of shipping
